Question: Can you help us celebrate our employees who really live our values in a way that will motivate others to follow their example?

Answer: Leave it to us.

Every year British Gas Business asks their staff to nominate co-workers who have lived the company values. The finalists are then treated to a weekend away and an awards dinner where the winners are announced.

Accepting this challenge, we incorporated the celebratory weekend into a campaign designed to really make BGB employees think about their values and how they translate into action, drawing everyone into the process regardless of whether they were nominated. A teaser campaign using posters and intranet banners, a strong launch and an easy-to-use nomination process led to a 75 per cent increase in nominations over the previous year.

Held at The Belfry, we gave the celebratory weekend a 1920s theme and delegates enjoyed a wide selection of entertainment, ranging from opportunities to play golf, learn how to dance the Charleston, polish poker skills in a masterclass or unlock the secrets of movie stunts. The evening event transported delegates to a 1920s Chicago speakeasy complete with character host, costumes and atmospheric room dressing.

BGB finalists gave the weekend rave reviews:
“Everything from the moment we arrived till we left was spot on”

“Nail on the head.  Extremely slick and well organised without being too formal”

“I thought the whole event was really well organised and there was excellent attention to detail. It was a brilliant weekend”

Question: Can you do inspiration, motivation and a dash of fun for 400, making the most of our budget?

Answer: Of course we can.

British Gas Business wanted to take their team leaders out of the office for a day to give them the skills to motivate and inspire others and asked asabell to come up with a format that combined fun with learning.

Our response was to use the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire as the setting for four quirky workshops that raised a smile but also prompted delegates to consider what they knew and how they felt about key business issues. We created a day where delegates came on down in The Price is Right, got hired and sometimes fired in The Apprentice, became human board game pieces and created their own TV adverts shown on a big screen at the end of the day. Add in one truly inspirational guest speaker in blind explorer, Miles Hilton-Barber, and you have the perfect combination to meet objectives in a fun and memorable way.

Fun and laughter aside, we knew we’d hit the spot when Louise Hall, head of internal communications for British Gas Business said the day was “easily the best organised conference we’ve ever had…outstanding”.
